Institute of Linguistics and Literary Studies

In 2019 (after implementing the arrangements of “Constitution for Education”) it was decided to combine the Institute of Polish Philology with the Institute of Foreign Philology and to create the two-disciplined Institute of Linguistics and Literary Studies. The new unit is building its position in the scientific and didactic world, using the experience and achievements of the Institutes on the basis of which it was created.

The Institute of Polish Philology was created in 1969 as one of the first units that were a part of the Faculty of Humanities of the Higher Teachers’ School in Kielce. The creator and first headmaster of the Institute was the known Polish linguist and author of multiple school textbooks, Prof. Michał Jaworski, PhD (1974-1987). In the next years for the form and development of the Institute were responsible:  Prof. Zdzisław Jerzy Adamczyk, Ph.D. (1987-1991, 1996-2002); Prof. Czesław Bartula, Ph.D. (1991-1993); Prof. Ireneusz Bobrowski, Ph.D. (1993-1996); Prof. Marek Ruszkowski, Ph.D. (2002-2005); Jan Kochanowski University Professor Marzena Marczewska, Ph.D. (2005-2008); Prof. Barbara Greszczuk (2008-2012), Ph.D.; Prof. Piotr Zbróg (2012-2019), Ph.D.; Jan Kochanowski University Professor Marzena Marczewska, Ph.D. (2019-).

The Institute of Polish Philology was established in 1969 as one of the first units included in the Faculty of Humanities of the Higher Teachers’ School in Kielce. The founder and first director of the Institute was a well-known Polish linguist, author of many school textbooks, Prof. Michał Jaworski (1974-1987). During the next years, the following academics were responsible for the shape and development of the Institute: Prof. Zdzisław Jerzy Adamczyk (1987-1991, 1996-2002), PhD; Prof. Czesław Bartula (1991-1993), Ph.D.; Prof. Ireneusz Bobrowski (1993-1996), Ph.D.; Prof. Marek Ruszkowski (2002-2005), PhD; Jan Kochanowski University Professor Marzena Marczewska, Ph.D. (2005-2008), Prof. Barbara Greszczuk (2008-2012), Ph.D., Prof. Piotr Zbróg, Ph.D. (2012-2019); Jan Kochanowski University Professor Marzena Marczewska, Ph.D. (2019-).

The Institute of Foreign has been functioning since the academic year 2011-2012. It was created as the result of merging the Institute of Russian Philology and the Independent Department of Neophilology.

The Institute of Literature and Linguistics is currently conducting undergraduate studies in 5 fields of study (Polish Studies, Speech Therapy, Applied Linguistics, English Studies, German Studies), master’s degree (Polish Studies, Applied Linguistics, English Studies, German Studies) and doctoral studies (in the field of linguistics and literary studies). We also offer postgraduate studies: Speech Therapy, Copywriting.      The Institute employs 109 academic teachers (in Kielce, Sandomierz and Piotrków Trybunalski). The unit actively cooperates with the Polish Culture and Language Centre (CKiJP: https://centrum.ujk.edu.pl/), operating at the Faculty of Humanities, educating foreign students in the field of the Polish language, the culture and history of Poland.
