The Faculty of Humanities has existed since the beginning of the University’s existence, i.e. since June 28, 1969. It has qualified staff and an excellent didactic base (radio and television studio, language laboratories, modern laboratories), enabling comprehensive education in all fields of study. It publishes several scientific journals: “Respectus Philologicus” (together with the Vilnius University, Faculty in Kaunas), “Token”, “Kieleckie Studia Filologiczne”, “Almanach Historyczny”, “Między Wisłą a Pilicą”, “Rocznik Bibliologiczno-Prasoznawczy”, “Studia Rusycystyczne”.
The Faculty includes: the Institute of History, the Institute of Polish Philology, the Institute of Foreign Languages, the Institute of Librarianship and Journalism [from October 1, 2019: the Institute of Literature and Linguistics, the Institute of History, Department of Journalism and Communication].
The Faculty of Humanities was the first unit of the University to obtain full academic rights. In 1989, the Council of the Faculty of Humanities obtained the right to confer a doctoral degree in history; in 1998 – to confer the degree of doctor of humanities in the field of linguistics; in 2002 – to award the degree of habilitated doctor in the field of history; in 2012 – to confer a Ph.D. in literary studies. In 2017, as a result of the evaluation of scientific activity by the Committee for the Evaluation of Scientific Units, the Faculty obtained category A.
The employees of the Faculty of Humanities conduct multidirectional research in several leading disciplines and specialties: linguistics (including English, German and Russian linguistics), history, literary studies, bibliology, media studies, archaeology, art history, cultural studies. These studies are in many cases interdisciplinary in nature.
