Elżbieta Awramiuk

Professor, linguist of the Polish language, works at the Department of Comparative and Applied Linguistics at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Bialystok. She deals with the issues of language education (lingual didactics, also in the comparative aspect and in relation to glottodidactics), orthography, phonetics and phonology of contemporary Polish, with particular emphasis on the impact of the graphemic system on the acquisition of written language and the practice of transmitting information about the Polish speech. Author of the monographs: “Systemowość polskiej homonimii międzyparadygmatycznej” (1999), “Lingwistyczne podstawy początkowej nauki czytania i pisania po polsku” (2006), “Zapisać mowę: Wybrane zagadnienia graficznej reprezentacji tekstów polskich” (2021), and of the popular science book “Sto pytań do językoznawcy, czyli poważne odpowiedzi na niepoważne pytania” (2016). Coauthor of the publication: “Słownik gramatyki języka polskiego” (2002), “Frazeologia w kształceniu językowym” (2017) oraz “Bateria Testów Pisania BTP IBE: Podręcznik” (2015). Editor and coeditor of several volumes of “Z problematyki kształcenia językowego” (2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020) and of the multiauthor monograph “Język ojczysty w edukacji szkolnej w Polsce, Czechach i na Słowacji”. In the period 2004-2012 she was a member of the Didactic Committee of the Polish Language Council at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Since 2005, she has been a member of the editorial team of the journal “L1 – Educational Studies in Language and Literature”, which is a forum for exchanging information on the latest research and theories on learning and teaching the mother tongue. In the years 2015-2019 she was a member of the board (secretary) of ARLE (International Association for Research in L1 Education – languages, literatures and literacies), and since 2013 a member of SIG EduLing (Special Interest Group Educational Linguistic) within ARLE.
